ADPS - Associateship of the Disabled Photographers Society
Attempt 1
I joined The DPS (Disabled Photographers Society) in September 2019. I have Fibromyalgia, now a registered disability, along with ME/CFS. I learnt that the DPS have their own set of distinctions akin to the RPS (Royal Photographic Society). Having been successful with achieving the LDPS (Licentiateship) in December 2019 I decided to apply for the ADPS (Associateship) in March.
Their definition is 'images of exceptional standard and a written Statement of Intent (what you hoped to achieve). This is a significant step up from the LDPS. At this stage creative ability and personal style (what makes your work unique to you), along with a complete control of the technical aspects of photography must be evident.'
Unfortunately I failed the ADPS as i had misunderstood the brief. I did not realise that the images had to be based on one theme as their definition (above) did not really state this. However they did view each image and gave feedback on which would be suitable for future applications. I was also advised to do a purely creative panel as my strengths are in those and show 'me' better.
